The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Olorundare Jimoh, has assured residents of Lagos and Ogun states of improved security, urging them to sustain their trust, cooperation, and partnership with the force. Jimoh, who oversees the Zone 2 Command, noted that the high level of commercial and industrial activity in both states makes them critical to Nigeria’s economic development.

Speaking at the Zone 2 Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, the AIG received the “Outstanding Excellence in Security Leadership Award 2026” from the Integrity Youth Alliance. Drawing on his previous experience as a Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Jimoh stated that he maintains a deep understanding of the unique security challenges along the major commercial corridors linking the two states.

Strengthening Security Through Community Partnerships

AIG Jimoh highlighted that the command has introduced several initiatives aimed at reducing crime, protecting critical infrastructure, and improving public safety. He credited the current success of these operations to intelligence-led policing and the active involvement of residents who provide vital information to help prevent and detect crimes.

He noted that security operations along major corridors would be further strengthened through deeper community engagement. The AIG maintained that the cooperation of the public remains the backbone of effective policing, particularly in densely populated industrial hubs where criminal elements often attempt to blend in with the civilian population.

Accountability and Feedback Mechanisms

In a push for greater transparency, the AIG urged members of the public to speak out whenever they observe misconduct or shortcomings in police operations. He emphasized that the doors of the command remain open for complaints, which he promised would be properly investigated and addressed through the appropriate channels.

Wherever you notice any misconduct or activities of the police that you are not satisfied with, our doors are widely open for complaints to be made and properly addressed.

— Olorundare Jimoh, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command

Jimoh further advised citizens with petitions against any officer, regardless of rank, to submit their grievances for action. He stated that constructive criticism is vital for improving policing standards and strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force. These efforts align with broader initiatives introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, to improve training and boost officer integrity.

Recognition of Operational Milestones

Kehinde Adewole, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Integrity Youth Alliance, Abuja, explained that the award was informed by Jimoh’s track record of professionalism and accountability. Adewole specifically cited the recovery of more than 115 stolen vehicles and the prosecution of numerous suspected cult members under Jimoh’s leadership.

He also commended the strategic deployment of 250 personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to key locations, which resulted in zero-incident security records during major festive celebrations. In response, Jimoh dedicated the honor to the officers and men of the Zone 2 Command, describing it as a reflection of their collective hard work.

This award is a special appreciation for the integrity and hard work of our officers. It is a recognition of what we have been doing, but we must not allow the award to get into our heads. Rather, it should support and encourage us to do more for the people we are serving.

— Olorundare Jimoh, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command

Collective Responsibility for Public Safety

Rights activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, also spoke at the event, attributing the relative peace in Lagos to teamwork and community engagement. He reiterated that the police are a reflection of the society they serve and that effective policing requires a symbiotic relationship between the force and the community.

Awosanya noted that the Nigeria Police Force has internal accountability mechanisms designed to address misconduct by officers of all ranks. This position reinforced the call for sustained police-public cooperation, emphasizing that accountability remains essential to building a more effective and trusted security system across Nigeria.
