Fakuyi Adewale Banjo has called for a state of emergency in Nigeria's health sector to address the mass migration of medical professionals. The call was made during a medical outreach marking the nation’s independence anniversary, providing free healthcare services to over 40 beneficiaries.

The Convener and Host of The Convergence 2026, Mr. Fakuyi Adewale Banjo, has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector. He warned that the continued exodus of medical professionals, popularly known as the “Japa syndrome,” is threatening the country’s healthcare system and requires immediate intervention to prevent further deterioration.
Speaking during the sixth edition of The Convergence at the Rave Television Complex, Banjo emphasized that the government must prioritize healthcare and create an environment capable of retaining qualified medical professionals within the country. The event was held as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, focusing on both policy advocacy and practical community support.
The anniversary celebration included a significant medical outreach organized in partnership with several organizations, including Emzor, Inside Out with Agatha Foundation (IOWA), Rave Television, Royal Home Foundation, and Saba Realtor, among others. Over 40 beneficiaries, including Clementina Ojishunite Onyekachi, received free medical services such as vital signs checks, blood sugar tests, general medical examinations, and counseling.
Professional nurses were on ground to dispense drugs, while specialized sessions were provided to address the holistic needs of participants. The program featured a mental health session anchored by Mrs. Maryam Owolabi Silas, and Counselor Mrs. Tomilola Akintunde provided dedicated counseling support to those in attendance.
Medical experts at the event underscored the critical link between the health of the population and national stability. Dr. Oluwasanmi Akinyera delivered a health talk emphasizing that Nigerians must take their personal health more seriously by embracing regular medical checks and preventive measures.
