Strategic Security and Management

CRAN praised the strategic deployment of personnel and the proactive management of potential flashpoints across Osun State. By utilizing intelligence-led policing, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies were able to identify and manage hotspots, effectively deterring threats before they could escalate into open violence.

The association emphasized that the ability to maintain order and safeguard citizens in a volatile political climate was a testament to the force's evolving strategies. CRAN observed that the discipline shown by officers on duty proved that a firm but fair approach, rather than the use of brute force, is the most effective foundation for maintaining electoral security.

Strengthening Democratic Foundations

As an organization comprising journalists covering crime and security, CRAN stressed that peaceful elections are fundamental to the consolidation of Nigeria's democracy. The Osun experience, according to the group, serves as a model for meticulous security planning and respect for citizens' rights before, during, and after the voting process.

To build on this momentum, the association urged the Nigeria Police Force to sustain these standards. The group also called for strengthened collaboration between the police, electoral bodies, political stakeholders, civil society organizations, and the media to ensure future exercises mirror the success recorded in Osun.

CRAN maintains that the success of any election goes beyond the conduct of the polls. It must also be measured by the ability of all stakeholders to protect lives, uphold the rule of law and preserve peace.

Sustaining Security Standards

Beyond the role of the police, CRAN called on political actors and their supporters to reciprocate the professionalism of security agencies by embracing peace and respecting the rule of law. The association warned against inflammatory statements or actions that could threaten public order during future democratic cycles.

In its concluding remarks, CRAN urged the police leadership to review the lessons learned from the Osun election to continuously improve strategies for securing Nigeria's democratic processes. The association maintains that providing an environment where citizens can exercise their rights without fear remains a benchmark for national stability and progress.
