Governor Alex Otti has launched the 2026 Youth Leadership Bootcamp in Abia State, a highly competitive program aimed at raising a new generation of ethical and transformational leaders.

The Abia State Leadership Academy’s 2026 Youth Leadership Bootcamp received over 7,000 applications, with only about 1,000 candidates securing admission. Governor Alex Otti declared the bootcamp open on Sunday at Government College, Umuahia, noting that the high volume of applicants reflects a growing confidence in his administration's vision for youth development.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, Governor Otti emphasized that the initiative is a critical component of his strategy to foster a new generation of ethical leaders. He stated that the future of Abia's development is intrinsically linked to the investment made in young people today.
The Abia State Leadership Academy is not a routine training centre. It is a strategic institution built to instil ethics, values and practical leadership skills in our young people. We are committed to getting it right with the younger generation; otherwise, our wider development efforts will be in jeopardy.

To ensure high-quality training, the state government partnered with the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan-Atlantic University. The collaboration aims to expose participants to international best practices in entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership. Dr. Uche Egbuna, Executive Director of the EDC, explained that the curriculum is built on four core pillars: leadership and service, enterprise, innovation, and impact.
The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, delivered a keynote lecture titled "The Demands of Stewardship," where he described the academy as one of Governor Otti's most significant legacies. He noted that the programme was designed to produce disciplined leaders who prioritize selfless public service and integrity.
The initiative was deliberately designed to produce principled, disciplined and transformational leaders by investing in the character and leadership capacity of teenagers and young people.

The selection process was described as highly competitive by Prof. Kenneth Kalu, President of the Abia State Leadership Academy, who confirmed that 7,052 individuals applied for the limited slots. He urged the successful candidates to focus on making lasting contributions to society rather than just completing the course.
Pastor Mrs. Eno Jerry-Eze, Chairman of the Abia State Civil Service Commission, encouraged the participants to embrace civic responsibility and leadership values. Represented by Rev. Mrs. Ifeoma Agu, she stressed that the bootcamp provides the necessary foundation for participants to become the positive change agents they wish to see in society.
Speaking on behalf of the cohort, Chukwuemerie Obiorah and Treasure Ogbonna expressed gratitude for the opportunity. They pledged to justify the government's investment by becoming responsible and transformational leaders in Abia State.
